KAZE after Final Friday

We'll be celebrating my birthday at Final Friday at the Pendleton Art Center 1310 Pendleton St. Cincinnati OH 45202 this Friday night, September 25, from 6-10 pm. Valet parking is $5 at the front door or you can park nearby or at the Horseshoe Casino right up the street.

After Final Friday ends, enjoy one of my favorite restaurants in Cincinnati's hoppin' OTR entertainment district: KAZE at 1400 Vine Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202 513-898-7991 www.kazeotr.com. The reservation inside is under the name Abbott and the kitchen stays open until midnight. I believe KAZE also has valet parking although I usually just park in one of lots nearby.

Pendleton celebrates its 25th birthday as an art center this month, in a building that's over one hundred years old. There will be a Silent Auction on the 8th floor where you can pick up great bargains from some of your favorite local artists. Tomorrow I'll post a photo of my second original in the auction, an acrylic painting of The Verona on Park Avenue in East Walnut Hills. I'll also have a 14 x 11" framed giclee print of my Fountain Square painting in the auction.

5 days until my big birthday party at the studio

This is an original acrylic painting I'll have in the silent auction for the Pendleton Art Center's Anniversary this Final Friday, September 25, 2015.

Each September for the past several years, resident artists have offered originals in a silent auction in honor of the Pendleton's birthday as an art center. You can great some great deals!

This Final Friday, I'll be celebrating a milestone birthday in Studio 507 and I hope you'll join me for the party. I want to show my appreciation for family, friends, collectors, customers, and supporters. No need for gifts, but if you want to bring me one, just give me a tube of paint.

Final Friday is 6-10 pm and valet parking is $5 at the front door of 1310 Pendleton Street.

22 days til my party at Final Friday

As the big college football fan I am, I've been watching Scarlet and Gray days on the Big 10 network. When I noticed their "countdowns" to the Virginia Tech game and the Michigan game, I thought I'd start my own countdown to Pendleton's Final Friday this month, which will be my big "one tube of paint" birthday celebration as well as the art center's annual anniversary bash.

To be honest, I wasn't that excited about entering a new decade until I got home and found a package on my doorstep yesterday. What a nice surprise: it was a birthday card and a tube of yellow green oil paint from the friend and fellow artist who owns my palette knife painting shown here.

I painted this en plein air at Glenwood Gardens on a Saturday morning a few summers ago, accompanied by artist Jennifer King. We used to pick spots to paint on Saturdays and just let one another know in case we could meet up there. I miss doing that and will have to try it again. My next plein air day will be Sat Oct 10 on Mt Adams at the Art Walk but there could be Saturdays after that with good weather for painting. Join me?

Anyway, I can't wait to use this new oil paint Cathy gave me to do another palette knife painting. It's been years since I've done that! And she was so kind and thoughtful to mail me a tube of paint and birthday greetings, even though she can't make it to the party on September 25. Her fabric and quilt work is the very finest and I'm filled with gratitude for her friendship, inspiration, and the gift of paint.

This countdown might keep me posting daily, which I always mean to do but then never seem to get around to; stay tuned and cheers!
