The scenery at Panama City Beach is much different than New York’s Finger Lakes region, where I spent a week painting last September. This year, I was again fortunate enough to be right on the water, with the ability to paint from the front porch.
Which was good because it was actually quite hot outside,
especially between 10-4. I’ll write more later about the challenges of painting
sunrises and sunsets and how difficult it was trying to capture the changing
light “en plein air,” especially with oils. I have some photographs to use as
reference but those never really capture what you see as you stand and watch
the real thing.
The first painting you see above is the one I was painting
in these photos, looking down to the left. This one is facing the other
direction, looking to the right (west).
These are small acrylics, which will go in readymade 11 x 14” frames with
mattes under glass. I painted the sunrises and sunsets in oils and even did a
watercolor of the condo where I stayed. More about that later too – this year I
“paid” for my residency week with two paintings of my hostess’ home.
