And the winner is…
A few weeks ago, my email newsletter asked recipients which of my first five Grand Canyon paintings they liked best. And people voted at the Pendleton Art Center on Final Friday August 26.
Voting was pretty evenly distributed across all five paintings, which makes me think that a series is a good idea. Plus I enjoy painting these, because it brings back memories of a great vacation.
The one pictured (#5) did not get the most overall votes but it IS the one I’m going to paint larger, on the 4 ft. square canvas that prompted these paintings in the first place. You know how we often agree with what others say because they actually clarify or reinforce our own opinion? Well that’s what happened on Final Friday in my studio: one man told me his favorite painting was #2 but that he thought he might like #5 more if it were bigger. I realized I agreed and had found my answer about which one to enlarge. Especially when one vote in the basket in my studio read “When it comes to art, listen to your heart!”
As for the voting, each of the five got around 20 percent of the total votes cast but the winner, by a slight margin, was #2 – Bright Angel Creek Near Phantom Ranch. Followed closely by #1 – Morning on the South Rim. All the originals are sold except this one, which I need as reference material right now. And #3, which is on display at BOOST! In Deerfield Township, a unique meeting space available to the public. More about that in the future.
Meanwhile, a big thank you to everyone who responded to my question with your votes and comments. I’m in the process of making prints of my Grand Canyon series and will paint more originals as well.
